The BUL rope + ribbon choreo is brilliant indeed. Fantastic ideas. _________________ "Time is a great teacher; unfortunately it kills all its pupils."

I think BLR should have won 5 hoops but oh well.. a hoop was out of the carpet but the routine was full of little (and not so little) tricks and the rest was clean (not like RUS whose routine was very messy).
Loved BUL's rope&ribbons routine even with the mistakes, look out for their starting position!
RUS's choreo is nice as well, it was so refreshing to see that they got at least 1 piece of music which actually suits their age.. _________________ oLyA |

Thank you all for the results and the impressions! :I'm happy that Moran Buzovski from Israel will be in the hoop final, she has a beautiful routine. Can't wait to see Prodanova's new routines.I'm really surprised now and also last week from Vass's results-very high in my opinion.I'm happy to see that Javadi will be in a final as well -i like this gymnast.. And although usual it's boring to see in every competition the same winner- Kanaeva (and i'm sure it will be the same in the finals), it's o.k. with me because it's fair - she is just so good and her routines are really great (except from ball).

Impressions. I’m going one by one and will be very brief.
Kanaeva: brilliant. Just brilliant. Most of the routines were clean, she’s really playing in a different category nowadays. Deserved win, without a shadow of doubt. Re: dalit – this time the ball was highly convincing, too!
Sessina: I never really liked her, but she was very good. Hoop and ribbon were highlights.
Kapranova: not so impressive, as her compatriots. Certainly looked less sharp than Kanaeva and Sessina, a drop with rope, too.
Charkashyna: nicely done for most of the day, although she’s certainly no Zhukova. I don’t remember why she scored so low with ball – it wasn’t clean, that’s sure.
Yussupova: Did alright. Nothing really very spectacular, but it was consistent (consistently high level). Her hoops scored high, it was very good too.
Shpekht: Doh. Great performer. Great choreographies. Awful, awful, awful execution, I think 7 drops altogether. I don’t know where she was mentally – certainly not on the floor. The three drops with hoop might haunt her. Got the shared Miss Harmony award though, at least something
Gurbanova: like Yussupova, nothing stood out, but she was consistent. Routines a bit messy with small mistakes.
Prodanova: Beautiful ball, OK ribbon, OK rope, one drop with hoop.
Alyabyeva: I liked her gymnastics, especially her rope. Her hoop was littered with mistakes, once she had to collect the apparatus from out of the carpet.
Vass: She was really, really uptight, never ever seen her being so stressed at a competition. Probably a big home event was unusual for her, plus there was extra pressure, as her club’s sponsor was the main sponsor of the World Cup, and she was the face of the competition.
Good ball and hoop, though slight mistake at the end with the latter. Rope wasn’t convincing, one really bad drop with ribbon. She told us afterwards that she’s only satisfed with the ball – first real smile came from her after that. Shared Miss Harmony, too. Her rope final has to do something with the „home wind” from the judges. Anyway, she has great potential.
Javadli: I saw her last year at the Óbuda Cup, and liked her a lot. Not so impressive this time. Average routines and the „Misfired throw of the day” award goes to her. Her ball went out the carpet, and bounced over the sofa in the kiss & cry! A deserved final with ribbon, though, it is certainly a consolation.
Lukjanova: Thoroughly average routines, I liked her hoop.
Tsekova: The small Bulgarian was very inconsistent. Good rope and ball, really messed up the ribbon badly (2 drops if I recall it correctly), the hoop was „dirty” too.
Cantaluppi: nice ball and ribbon, but I felt she was not sharp enough.
Buzovski: First time that I saw her and she was doing quite well! Her hoop was a highlight for her, it’s a great routine.
Kremer: very little difference between her and Buzovski, as seen in the points. Nothing really stood out, but no very bad mistakes either.
Ruprecht: pretty girl as I saw I liked her elegance, but nothing really caught the eye performance-wise.
Gomes: didn’t have a good day, though she’s one of my favourites. Smaller drops here and there (IIRC especially messy ball), but she really seems to be enjoying her time on the carpet.
Rigó: first year senor and first ever major competition for her. She was not even the best junior in Hungary last year! If you remember Katalin Kiss from a few years ago, Rigó looks like her. Very tall, very long legs, the style is quite similar too. I think she did what she knows, so quite a good day for her. The ball was good.
Saresvirta: the third Miss Harmony besides Shpekht and Vass, but that’s the most she can celebrate. Bad mistake with ball, she could have been higher in the AA if not for he drops.
Dermekova: looked very young :p Nothing too strong apart from her hoop.
Palásthy: hero of the day for us maybe. She have been written off as overweight and „not the right body type” sometimes, but today she gave everything. Well-executed routines, won the heart of the audience too. Both her and her coach were overjoyed.
Soós: I think she looked a bigger talent two years ago. Not too strong routines, I liked her hoop and ribbon. _________________ "Time is a great teacher; unfortunately it kills all its pupils." |

Just an indication of how bad the Russian group's ribbons+ropes was: the coaches just left the area without even bothering to get close to the kiss and cry. _________________ "Time is a great teacher; unfortunately it kills all its pupils." |

(Just home at hotel after dinner & before photo work begins...)
Agree RUS coaches, that routine barely deserves any comment (lost count the number of RUS drops (6-7-8?))...was absolute complete mess. Ummm, let's just say...do not be surprised by anything these days with RG groups results.
Quick few impressions of groups today...BLR should win here. BUL is still putting it together, just they lost a bit of focus at finish of ribbons+ropes (but 18.100(?), can someone explain to me what those judges were thinking!). RUS is VERY young team, their 5-hoops didn't seem special, their ribbons+ropes - no more comment required. HUN, energetic and had total fan support. Here are today's official group results, given to me in press room... -T
5-Hoops
1. Russia 25.150
2. Belarus 25.100
3. Bulgaria 23.550
4. Hungary 22.700
5. China 22.400
2-Ropes + 3-Ribbons
1. Belarus 21.050
2. Russia 20.250
3. Hungary 18.775
4. China 18.600
5. Bulgaria 18.100 |

20.250 for that?
I mean, they should've had a map to find a way out of that mess! _________________ "Time is a great teacher; unfortunately it kills all its pupils." |

Me too, I agree. This is not a good combination at all. |

There is room for innovation for the clever.
I remember was very cool at one point yesterday...BUL sent a ring of rope threaded by a ribbon and then the ring descended toward another gymnast waiting to receive it.
Still yes, have to agree...
Ribbons+ropes is not nearly as eye-catching as other combinations and at the moment ->>> It is quite apparent nearly all teams are having trouble performing this combination error-free.
As the season progresses...let's keep an eye on this early trend. -T |

Tom T - yes, that was really good.
----
Hello! Back in the Arena, competition will start with the junior groups in 20 minutes time.
I can bring mini-interviews today as there'll be a press conference before the gala at 14.15.
The senior groups will be called during the individual finals, so 2 indiv. - 1 group - 2 indiv. is the calling order.
According to my colleague Shtelbaums was furious at the senior group yesterday, but it's hardly surprising.
Off to my place now.
