OMG!!! anna will be there?!!! Youandi told me that she has officially retired at the end of October... And now she's appearing on the show "Dance For You"... I wonder if she has time for training... But if it is the truth that she will be there I will be so excited!!!!

By the way, Gimatova is the coach of Garaeva now... so how come she will be there? And hasn't Almu already retired since after the Olympics?

But I remembered last year there were videos on youtube showing Anna's clubs and ribbon routine... Back then when I watched those videos, I didn't think Anna was competing... so I thought she could still perform her routines as the "gala" ?

I look forward to seeing what Dinara will be doing. Her gala in AZE (EC) was not sooo impressive... Anyway, it must be the first time that a coach and her student are in the same gala;)

Impressions please!

Ps. Just am getting from rsg.net Euskalgym 2009 video topic...that Nov 14th was held at Durango and Nov 15th was at a bigger arena in Bilbao (Yes? Plz correct otherwise, wish could have been there!). What else... Anna, Evgeniya, Melitina several other international senior stars did perform and give galas at Euskalgym this year. Almudena?

Anna and Marlies, you are being absolutely unfair with Dinara.

Dinara is a coach now, not a gymnast anymore, she doesn't train anymore, did you forget this? Maybe she is injured, never thought about this?

She did this gala because the whole event was a hommage to Almudena Cid, and this was her personal hommage for Almu, she did this because she wanted to do it. She didn't come for the gala to Bilbao but as a coach for Aliya.
In these circumstances I don't think we have to judge what she did but say thanks that she did it.

I agree with Esther. DInara is no longer a gymnast, and I think that what she did is rather impressive for a retired one. She even did someting like 10 fouette pivots in a row, which is not so easy to do.

And you must also give value to the artistic component of her performances. BTW, we most photogs and videogs agreed that Dinara´s gala was one of the funniest and nicest to watch in Baku 2009.

Only the fact that she performed was for us a proud, and a present from Dinara to Almudena and the Spanish audience.

I didn't see anything boring in this event.

Tom, my impressions:

1) The event has grown in relation to last year's one. Two competition halls, the former one in Durango and the new in Bilbao, with a capacity of almost 5000 spectators. Also more volunteers, more events, with the organization making a lottery to give something like 30 Venturelli balls (donated by the manufacturer) signed by the gymnasts to the lucky ones, etc, etc.

2) They decided to switch and invite 7 of the 10 best placed gymnasts in Mie instead of international groups. The result was a complete success and the craziness for Spanish audience. The pavillion were crowded, with very popular prices (5€ both days).

3) More about the arrival: the day that all gymnasts came to Bilbao was a very windy one, and all of them had a shaky landing. The worst part was for the Azeri girls, which couldn't land at all in Bilbao and were deviated to Biarritz in France and then taken to Bilbao by bus. They had to arrive at 21.15 and finally did it at 01.30h, poor girls.

4) The fact that all these gymnasts made a tribute for Almudena Cid, was very emotional, and the performance of Almudena herself, making an acrobatic show with Ortxi Acosta (former Spanish artistic gymnast and ex- Cirque du Soleil) which was breathtaking.

All in all, a great event, Tom. It was a pity that you had to miss it, would have loved it. And everything keeping a kind of familiar environment.

So, a big big thank you to the organizers of this Euskalgym 2009!
