This article was on the page of finnish gymnastics federation svoli. Maria says that she retires because she's had many victories during her career and wants to give space for younger gymnasts. Her wish has always been getting the Olympic place, but when she didn't get to Peking she thinks that she hasn't enough motivation and she thinks she doesn't get enough practicing she says she retires She wants to thank everyones support during the years. i think she's quit young for retirement. What do you think? _________________ Just do it. |

Oh, Maria too!
I think there are many gymnasts retiring for the same reasons.
It's very hard to train if you haven't enought motivation, and gymnasts can have other interests they want to develop.
So... I can understand Maria.
Obviously I will miss her, I saw her many times, she's a lovely girl.
What are her projects for future?
She's so beaufiful that she can become a model! _________________ Alessandra

I will miss her so much She was so nice on the carpet and had a lot of beautiful elements in the routines - especially her hoop routine was really, really beautiful!! And yes I think she`s quite young to retire, too... But I really do understand her - she didn`t get her () OG ticket What a shame...
I wish her all the best for the future <3 And yes purple, she`s such a lovely girl - so I`m sure she`ll do well Good luck, Maria |

I already knew about that...
It´s a pity... I liked her work and admired her!
She was a good gymnast but she´s still better person!
We will miss her!
Wish her all the best
Promise to ask her and tell you what are her plans for the future _________________ Love Argentina! |

I really like her and find it a huge pity she never got to go to the Olympics. In 2004 she was so close, now not so much though. I found it surprising that she didn't place higher in Patras. Anyway, I wish her the best of luck with the rest of her life! Nordic Championships won't be the same anymore... |

Sad for Maria too. I remember one morning at Patras on the way to the arena...and sitting near to Maria and Marleena Saresvirta on the shuttle bus. Was editing the previous day's work and so showed Maria and Marleena some of their Patras photos. Just am happy for that brief moment now... (Try to make a Maria tribute 'daypic', hope soon.)

I wish her good luck and lots of fun in her life and want to thank her for many nice touching performances I had the chance to enjoy live!
Even though she did not achieve the OG goal this article does not sound to negative (from sumary) and we should not forget that it's a good thing if a gymnast can decide on her own when she wants to stop which is not always the case in this sport unfortunately. _________________ RG is the true reason to go on in my life! |

I think you are absolutely right Anna.. It`s good that it`s her own decision and not because of anything else, e.g. like an injury... |

Just now a little tribute series of Maria images on 'daypic' page... ( www.tomtheobald.com )
The receiving flowers image was at 2006 Berlin, when she won "Miss Tournament" prize.
Good Luck Maria! |
