I have been wondering about tights for a while.
For example Sessina always wears tights, while Kapranova and Ira never...
The same with the Ukrainians, Anna always can be seen with tights, Natasha never.
I know tights look good only on long-legged gymnasts, but Olya and Nata has long legs as well. I just find it weird that they have never worn tights.
Err.. sorry, I know it's not a weighty question. _________________ oLyA |

I forgot of Nata's hoop leo , but when did Anna wear a leo without tights? I remember last seeing him 2 years ago in Budapest without tights. Or at least, since the OGs, all of her leos were with tights, right? _________________ oLyA |

You have to remember that ACTUALLY =
TIGHTS are sitll FORBIDDEN to be worn UNDER the Leotards.
That is the actual Rule which has not been changed from 15 years.
The Actual C.O.P. - as the previous ones - says =
the Gymnasts can wear a tight OVER the leotard.
The same as UNITARD with Skirt , which was Forbidden until O.G. of ATHENS, because the COP has included unitard with skirt only on the last New COP 2005-2008.
That means that ALL gymnasts who wear a tight under the leotard are OUT of Actuall Rule of 2005-2008 COP.
It is accepted in many competitions, but IT IS NOT ALLOWED.
Accepted and allowed is not same.
That means if one day, on any kind of Competition a Superior Judge decide to penalize a gymnast for the tight UNDER the leotard, she can do it, and the Gymnast and her Coach have no right to say anything.
All gymnast have to know and to remember that point, until the F.I.G. decide to change this sentence in the COP.
That means if they decide to wear a tight under, they will take a risk , in their OWN responsability. |

Lethinha,
The problem is not why it's not allowed, you must understand :
the rule is old and has not been changed. And the rule of COP, says from many years that the tights must be OVER the leotard, but it is not written UNDER.
Naturally I agree that it is more beautiful under the Leotard, but the rule is the rule , and it cannot exist 2 different rules , one for high level gymnasts and another for low level.
The COP is the same for everybody. And actually the COP 2005-2008 doesn't allow the tights under the leotard. |

The tights are the " collant" that some gymnasts put on their legs, some with strass or design on it matching with their leotard. |

Here’s a photo of Julia Lombara where she wears tights underneath her leotard:

At first I thought it’s just a light reflexion. Then I noticed that it is NOT a light reflexion, but tights underneath a leotard Is it allowed to wear tights underneath leotards? |

Kate. So long the tight reach the ankles, there's no problem I guess. For me, I prefer tights because it's not always good for adult gymnasts to show their legs...they look better with the tights. I remembered in FIG site, they said in the rules that tights would be worn and reach to the ankles. _________________ *Don't ever let someone tell you that you can't do something. You got a dream, you got to protect it. I think that perhaps they think that if the tights have designs on them then they are part of the Leotard design and not really Tights at all.
Actually it seems to me that what people are really wearing are tights, an 'under-leotard' with pants, then a tunic / dress on top. It's been a while since many people wore a leotard at all.
Rhythmicfriend is right in that the COP is very out of date on all this.
As they will be changing the COP after the Olympics maybe they will change it and bring it more up to date.
Maybe there will be a ruling on sequins and crystals as well? |
