Hello,

The biggest event for many gymnasts around the world is fast approaching. I was wondering, what are you predictions?

I have no doubt that Malaysia will win the Gold medal in the team competition. It will be the first time the host nation won't win the gold medal. Perhaps Australia will be second, (I really like Amy Khera) and England 3rd. England doesn't have the wonderful team like 4 years ago, when we took all gold medals. I hope there will be a close competition in the All-Around, in Baku I really liked the Cypriot gymnast, I hope she does really well and she could suprise us. I'm sure Alexandra Orlando will be strong for Canada. England's strongest gymnast will be Hannah Chappell, who could do well too. Wales has Francesca Jones. I'm looking forward to seeing gymnasts from South Africa too. Does anyone know which other nations will take part in the Rhythmic event?

I was happy to see that BBC Interactive is planning to show almost the whole rhythmic comp. Hurrah!

Hi
New Zealand is sending 2 gymnasts (both Juniors):
1. Teegan Metacalfe
2. Melissa Logan

I personally think that Canada will win the gold in the team, I don't think they can be reached. Alex should also take home gold in the AA as well!

My prediction:
1 Canada (Alex Orlando, Yana Tzikaridze, Carly Orava)
2. Malaysia
3. England (Hannah Chappell, Rachel Ennis, Heather Mann)
4. Australia (Kimberley Mason, Amy Khera, Naazmi Johnson)
5. Cyprus (Raissa Panayiotou, Chrisovalanti Dimitriou, Trikomitou Loukia)
6. South Africa
7. New Zealand (Melissa Logan, Teegan Metcalfe)
8. Thailand
9. India

others - Wales (Francesca Jones - perhaps placing above South Africa), Namibia?
Judging will be interesting as I suspect Australia will be over represented and Malaysia under-represented. The head judge is Canadian so they should be OK.

i am sad to say that the Scottish RG team are not being allowed to go!! The Scottish commonwealth Games council say they are too young at 15 to be going. I see no reason that they should not be going as they have been in the British Squad allong side those going from England and Wales!!! They hav trained for 3 years for this and they were toldthey couldnt go. even though they achived the Qualification scores set by the Scottish Council.
However i wish all gymnasts the best of luck out in Melbourne.

I think it will be

1 MAL
2 AUS
3ENG

thats what i think. But one part of me wants England to win !! he he Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Wink Wink

pfft thats so stupid! and mean they've prepared so hard!

for any australians i guess foxtel is going to broadcast EVERYTHING they're suppost to have something like 7 channels with around the clock coverage. I dont have foxtel so I better not miss any action from channel 9 i think are taking the commonwealth games. I'm not so fussed on who medals I just want everybody to try their best and enjoy themselves, you cant ask for more. good luck to all the girls! Very Happy

Yes i agree.
What makes it more annoying is that they were at the Youth commonwealth Games in Dec 2004 in Melbourne and did quite well.
Never mind !

I didn't think there was any real sort of age limit for commonwealth games, one of our divers is only 13. if they meet the requirements why shouldnt they be allowed to compete? Evil or Very Mad it wasnt a case of too many numbers, was it? Confused

I think you are totally underestimating the experience and international reputation of the Canadian team!

No it wasn't to do with the numbers we only had 2 gymnasts at that level. But the council did state that if they wernt going to bring back medals then they should not be going !!!!so much for the ' Freindly Games ' !!! I thought that was a really bad thing to say!!
